Shajahan urges BNP not to retreat from next election

RANGPUR, Sept 22, 2018 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, MP, has
called upon BNP not to retreat from the upcoming general elections and hatch
conspiracies showing various excuses.

“We call upon you (BNP) to take part in the next general elections. Even if
you do not participate, election will be held at the right time as per
constitution. Election will be conducted with those who want to take part,”
Khan said today.

He said this while responding to questions asked by journalists after he
emerged from a meeting of the Advisory Committee of Burimari Land Port
Development Management Affairs Committee at bordering Burimari town in
Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Welcoming any new alliance of BNP to participate in the next general
election, the minister said there is no pleasure in winning elections without
a healthy and strong competition.

“But, if the alliance of BNP aims at creating any anarchy through hurling
petrol bombs and terrorist activities, the common people of the country will
refuse them again like the past, without any mistake,” he said.

Regarding a question related to development of the land port, Khan said a
warehouse, replacement of rail lines on two-kilometre route from Burimari to
Chengrabandha and transforming four-kilometre road to four-lane would be
completed soon.

“An international bus terminal and an electricity supply sub-station will
be built at Burimari Land Port. Besides, power generators will be kept ready
round the clock to create congenial environment there for passage of people
and their transportation,” he said.

ATM booths of different commercial banks would be set up at Burimari Land
Port to ease banking transactions for importers, exporters, businesspersons
as well as incoming and outgoing passengers, the minister added.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Primary and
Mass Education Motahar Hossain, MP, Israfil Alam, MP, Lalmonirhat Deputy
Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Arif, Police Super SM Rashidul Haque, Zila
Parishad Chairman Advocate Matiar Rahman and Patgram Upazila Chairman Ruhul
Amin Babul, among others, were present.
