DHAKA, Dec 8, 2017 (BSS) – The government has taken back Sultana Jute Mills Ltd, Bashbaria, Chittagong, from its lessee as it violated a couple of conditions set by the handover agreement and given it under the authority of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).

“The factory authorities had taken the responsibility of managing the institution accepting the conditions of paying all the dues of the government and different financial institutions. But they didn’t pay the dues. They have been served with notice to pay the dues on five times in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, and finally on 2016. But they didn’t pay any attention to those notices,” an official release said.

“They also removed the machineries of the factory from their places and stacked those on a side, kept the factory locked for long time, kept its hundreds of workers jobless, hence violating conditions of handover agreement,” the release added.

According to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, with Sultana Jute Mills, the government till now has taken back 12 mills for violating handover agreement and keeping the productions off.
