Mujibul for ensuring reproductive health for workers

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haque here today said that the government will make endeavors to ensure reproductive and sexual health of the workers at their respective workplaces.

“Government seriously considers the health and safety issues at the professional level. Sexual and reproductive health at workplaces is very important as well. It will be easier to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) if the sexual and reproductive health of our workers can be ensured,” said Mujibul.

The state minister came up with the observation at an international conference on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights at Workplace (SRHR) at Dhaka University (DU).

Department of Population Sciences of DU and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation jointly organised the function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate Auditorium on the campus.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation of Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka Jeroen Steeghs, FBCCI president Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among others, spoke at the programme.

Mujibul said, “We face an economic loss of 2.5 million dollar annually due to lack of sexual and reproductive health at workplaces. Industry owners have to consider the sexual and reproductive health of their workers seriously.”
