Sound health of pregnant women stressed for safe delivery

RANGPUR, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS) – Officials and experts at a free health camp
today stressed on ensuring balanced diet to maintain sound health of pregnant
women with regular check up for safe delivery.

They came up with the opinion at the free health camp jointly organised by
the upazila administration and upazila women affairs officer’s office at
Hakimpur Upazila Parishad auditorium in Dinajpur district.

The event was arranged under auspices of the Ministry of Women and Children
Affairs to provide cost-free health services to pregnant women to ensure safe
delivery and further reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

More than 300 pregnant women belonging to poorer section families of
Hakimpur municipal area were given cost-free health services and medicines in
the health camp.

With Hakimpur Upazila Women Affairs’ Officer Rita Laskar in the chair,
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shukria Pervin attended the health camp as the chief
guest.

Hakimpur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ahsan Habib and
Female Councilor of Hakimpur municipality Ferdousi Begum, among others,
addressed.

Rita Laskar discussed various programmes being implemented by the
government to ensure health services of the poor, including pregnant women
and lactating mothers living both in urban and rural areas.

Dr Ahsan Habib called upon pregnant women to undergo regular check up and
take balanced diet during pregnancy for safe delivery of babies at hospitals,
health complexes, maternity centres or community clinics.

He also urged them to give first milk to their newborn babies within one
hour of birth and ensure breastfeeding for six months and continuation of the
same till two years age along with complementary foods to prevent child
deaths under the age of five.

The chief guest suggested pregnant women to meet their nutrition properly
so that they could deliver healthier babies safely and provide breast milk to
ensure proper mental and physical growth of their babies.
