ACC’s recommendations help checking corruption

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS) – The recommendations prepared by institutional teams of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have become an effective tool in checking corruption and irregularities in the public sector.

“We are getting positive response from the public organizations where the reports prepared by the institutional teams of the ACC have forwarded with a number of recommendations and expert opinions to check corruption and irregularities of the concerned organizations,” ACC Deputy Director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told BSS today.

In the reports, the ACC teams have detected the causes of corruption and prepared a set of recommendations to stop the misdeeds, he said, adding that many of the organizations have got positive results after conducting their activities following the recommendations, he said.

Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has already transferred 25 teachers of government colleges and schools outside the capital for their alleged involvement in coaching business following the recommendations of the ACC’s institutional teams formed to check graft in the education sector, he informed.

The Civil Aviation Authority, Titas Gas, Bangladesh Biman, Land Records and Survey Department, Sea and Land Port Authorities, have introduced some time-befitting measures involving digital divide to prevent their corruption following the ACC recommendations, he also said.

“We have already forwarded some 10-12 reports to different public organizations with a set of recommendations after taking opinions of the experts,” said the ACC official.

“The commission is now scrutinizing the rest of the reports prepared by its institutional teams to make recommendations and forward those to the respective organizations,” he added.

As many as 25 institutional teams of the commission were formed in 2017 aimed at preparing reports on corruption and irregularities in 25 public organizations mainly to combat and prevent corruption and irregularities of those organizations.

The organisations include: Titas Gas; Bangladesh Railway; Civil Aviation Authority; Bangladesh Biman; Customs, VAT and Excise; Department of Income Tax; Dhaka WASA; Department of Narcotics Control; Roads and Highways Department; Bangladesh Road Transport Authority; Registration Complex including Offices of the Sub-Registrars; Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority; Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation; Public Works Department; Office of the Comptroller General of Accounts; Sea and Land Port Authorities; Directorate of Drug Administration; Offices of the Deputy Commissioner, Dhaka (Land Acquisition (LA) and Revenue Sections (SA), Department of Environment; Bangladesh Standards and testing Institution; Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripokkha; Land Records and Survey Department; Directorate of Health; National Housing Authority and Directorate of Education.
