Agricultural Marketing Bill, 2018 passes in parliament

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 18, 2018 (BSS) – A bill titled ‘Agricultural Marketing Bill, 2018’
passed in the parliament in an amended form with a view to checking excessive use of pesticides
and chemical substances and to ensure fair price of the agricultural commodities of the farmers as
well as keeping product price within tolerable limit for the consumers.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury moved the bill in the House which was
unanimously passed by voice votes with Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mia in the chair.

Piloting the bill, Matia said the proposed act will replace the Warehouses Ordinance, 1959 and
other two acts including the Agricultural Produce Markets Regulation Act, 1964 and the
Agricultural Produce Markets Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 1985.

The proposed act will expedite the enhancement of good marketing management of the
agricultural products, development of agricultural trading, production and marketing of
agricultural products along with ensure fair price of the agricultural products produced by the
farmers.

Earlier, the bill was sent to the parliamentary standing committee on September 10, 2018 for
providing report.
