Students urged to create mass-awareness about traffic rules

RAJSHAHI, Sept 18, 2018 (BSS)- Police officials and academics urged the youths and students in particular to create awareness about traffic rules so that the road accidents could be reduced to a greater extent.

They identically viewed that strict enforcement of traffic rules besides creating wide-ranging mass-awareness has become an urgent need to ensure road safety.

They made this observation while addressing a post-rally discussion styled “Traffic Law, Cyber Crimes and Social Values” at Rajshahi College auditorium today.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) organised the meeting in association with Rajshahi College. More than 800 people comprising police members, teachers and students joined the rally and meeting.

RMP Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter and its Deputy Commissioner Ameer Jafar addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Principal of Rajshahi College Professor Habibur Rahman in the chair. Vice-principal of the College Prof Al Faruque Chowdhury and Head of Department of English Prof Pujush Kanti also spoke.

Hafiz Akter said utmost importance should be given on enhancing drivers’ skills, awareness on traffic law and tendency to obey law among the public in general for road safety. There is no alternative to awareness for preventing road accidents which create grave concern.

Enhancement of competence and awareness of the professional drivers and others concerned is very important to this end. If the drivers drive their vehicles carefully the existing number of road accidents could be reduced to a greater extent. Role of students is very important to this end.

Referring to the cyber crimes RMP Commissioner underscored the need for enhancing digital literacy and strong monitoring of social media mechanism to combat cybercrime and propaganda everywhere in the society.

He urged the students to use information and communication technologies carefully for the sake of averting cyber crimes.

Hafiz Akter further said cyber space and social media are instigating the youths towards involvement in extremism and militancy. So, there is a need of making the youngster aware and alert in this regard.

He said digital literacy needs to be increased to remove cybercrime phobia. “We need to include ‘cyber security and propaganda’ in the textbooks of schools and colleges to create awareness in this regard,” the RMP commissioner added. He also laid importance on social values to combat all sorts of social crimes.

Earlier on, a huge rally was brought out in the college campus to raise awareness on the crucial issues.
