Modern technology for boosting mango production stressed

RAJSHAHI, Dec 3, 2017 (BSS) – Speakers at a function stressed the need for using modern technologies in mango farming as it could be the vital means of making this juicy fruit farming more profitable and boosting its production.

The observation came in a daylong farmers training styled “Modern Technology in Mango Farming and its Post-harvest Management” here yesterday.

Fruit Research Station (FRS) of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institution (BARI) organized the training at FRS Seminar Hall.

Director (Research) of BARI Dr Lutfor Rahman addressed the training session as the chief guest with FRS Principal Scientific Officer Dr Alim Uddin in the chair. Principal Scientific Officer of BARI Dr Golam Faruque and Senior Scientific Officer Dr Shakhawat Hossain also spoke.

Dr Lutfor Rahman said modern technologies will have to be promoted commercially in mango orchards in the region to protect this fruit from pest attack with facilitating the farmers to get quality and better yield.

He said there is no alternative to be trained the farmers for substantial and sustainable use of modern technologies.

Dr Alim Uddin said many growers and seasonal traders harvest and market quality and safe mango through the best uses of modern technology.

In addition to the government agencies, many non-government organizations concerned provide training to the growers and traders to make them habituated in producing and harvesting coupled with post-harvest handling, transportation and marketing of mango in safe and hygienic ways, he added.
