Sheikh Hasina’s birthday to be dedicated to poor people: Quader

DHAKA, Sept 14, 2018 (BSS)- This year’s birthday of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will be dedicated to the distressed, poor and down-trodden people of the country.

“On September 28 doa will be offered after Juma prayers at all mosques of the country including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque marking the birthday of the prime minister. Special prayers will be held at all pagodas and temples,” Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters after a secretariat meeting of AL here.

The meeting was held to make success the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the AL president’s political office in city’s Dhanmodi with Obaidul Quader in the chair.

He said a total of 100 rickshaw vans will be distributed among the poor families under the initiative of AL Relief Sub-committee in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 10 am on the day and foods will be served to the distressed people at Azimpur at 11am.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said BNP engaged lobbyists to create pressure on the government.

“It will not yield any dividend to BNP even if the party wants to create any pressure on the government by any means. The government won’t bow down to anyone excepting the common people,” he added.

He said the United Nations (UN) can give their advices regarding the next polls. But there is no scope to go beyond the purview of the country’s Constitution, he added.

About the threat of BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed, the AL general secretary said they (BNP) have no strength to wage movement against the government. They could not wage any movement during the last 10 years, he added.

Marking the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, AL has taken elaborate programmes including books distribution and financial assistance among the students of poor families, joy rally, art competition and discussion, he said.

Prime Minister’s Political Advisor HT Imam, AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organizing Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, AFM Habauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque and Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and Publicity and Publication Secretary Hasan Mahmud, among others, were present at the meeting.
