DHAKA, Nov 27, 2017 (BSS)- The Embassy of Brazil in Dhaka will open a commerce wing to facilitate Bangladesh-Brazil direct trade and solve existing bilateral trade related barriers.

The embassy will also take steps to simplify visa processing for Bangladesh knitwear traders for promoting knitwear export to Brazil, said Brazilian ambassador in Dhaka Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior during a trade talks with Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers Association (BKMEA) here today.

BKMEA president Selim Osman presided over the discussion on “Promotion of Knitwear Export in Brazil: unlocking the potentials”.

Additional Secretary of Commerce Ministry Shafiqul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute Ali Ahmed, Director of the America wing of Foreign Ministry Seheli Sabrin, First Vice-President of BKMEA Mansur Ahmed and Second Vice President Fazle Shamim were present, among others.

“Brazil is one of the largest economies in the Latin America and it can be an attractive market for Bangladesh knitwear products,” Selim Osman said, adding that Bangladesh knitwear traders are interest to go for a joint venture investment in Brazil.

Osman said raw cotton is imported from Brazil for manufacturing knitwear in Bangladesh. If spinning mills can be set up in Brazil in joint collaboration, the country can import yarn from those mills for manufacturing knitwear products and it can export those knitwear products to Brazil, he added.

The BKMEA president sought duty free market access of those knitwear products to Brazil.
