DHAKA, Nov 27, 2017 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said export of Bangladeshi products to India would be increased at a mentionable rate if the existing trade barriers are removed.
“Bangladesh has huge trade deficit with India, as the export of Bangladeshi products is not being possible as per expectation due to non and para tariff complexities in India,” he added.
The minister was addressing as chief guest ‘Horasis Asia Meeting’ at a hotel in Kolkata organized by Switzerland-based organization Horasis in cooperation with the West Bengal Government and Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), said an official release received here today.
He said Bangladesh is developing 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) where each country would get a separate zone.
“Investors from different countries have moved forward with investment as the government has announced special facilities for the investors,” said Tofail.
He said foreign investors could take back the investment with profit anytime and the government has secured the interest of investors by enacting laws.
Myanmar’s Mandalay Region Chief Minister Zaw Myint and ICC President Shashwat Goenka, among others, also spoke in the meeting with Horasis President Frank Jurger Richter in the chair.
Earlier in the morning, the commerce minister visited room no. 24 of Bekar Hostel of Maulana Azad College (former Islamia College) where Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stayed from 1943 to 1947.
Later, he went to 8, Theater Road, the Head Office of Mujibnagar Government during the war of liberation, 57/8 Baliganj Circular Road, the place of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra operation and 22, Bhabanipur Sunny Villa where political leaders including Tofail Ahmed stayed during the war of liberation.
