RMP forms crises response team

RAJSHAHI, Sept 13, 2018 (BSS) – Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has formed ‘Crises Response Team (CRT)’ with the main thrust on facing some major unruly and subversive activities and violence, including terrorism, militancy and drug-trafficking in the metropolis.

The 24-member team has been formed in similarity with the team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) through time-fitting training. The team activity has been launched formally at RMP headquarters here yesterday afternoon.

The team comprises one assistant deputy commissioner (ADC), two senior assistant commissioners, two inspectors, five sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector and 13 all-rounder constables.

On this occasion, Senior Law Implementing Adviser of US Department of State Anti- Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Chris Wingguard made a courtesy call on RMP Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter and exchanged views with him.

Chris Wingguard discussed about the law and order situation in Rajshahi city and praised the RMP’s recent-past anti-militancy activities.

He assured the RMP commissioner that members of the newly formed CRT team will be given furthermore higher training in phases.

The meeting was told that the team has already completed a training course at Jordan International Police Training Center in Jordan from July 8 to August 9 successfully. US Department of State Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA) supervised the training.

They were imparted training on how to conduct operation to arrest terrorists besides combating militancy in crisis moment with courage.

RMP Deputy Commissioners Tanveer Haider Chowdhury, Amir Jafar, Abu Ahammad Al Mamun and Joynul Abedeen, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam and Assistant Commissioner Fazlul Karim were present at the meeting.CRT members were also present there.
