Dr Milon’s 27th martyrdom anniversary observed

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2017 (BSS) – Shaheed Dr Milon Day, commemorating the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, was observed today in a befitting manner.

On this day in 1990, Dr Milon, the then joint-secretary general of
Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), was gunned down by some terrorists on Dhaka University campus during the anti-autocracy movement.

Different socio-cultural and political organisations as well as
professional bodies placed floral wreaths at the grave of Milon on Dhaka Medical College campus and memorial plaque near TSC crossing of Dhaka University.

Awami League (AL) leaders and workers placed wreaths at the grave on the premises of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), offered fateha and attended a special munajat in the morning.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader, Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Organising Secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Enamul Haque and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Salam Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and Deputy Office Secretary Biplab Barua were present on the occasion, among others.

Besides, BNP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Dhaka University unit of BCL, Shaheed Dr Milan family members, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College University and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote placed wreaths at the grave.

Later, the leaders also placed wreaths at the monument of Shaheed Dr Milan on the premises of Dhaka University Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).

BMA held a discussion at Dr Milon Chattar of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to mark the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque and Dr Milan’s mother Selina Akhtar addressed, the discussion, among others, with BMA President Prof Mahmud Hasan in the chair.
