Bankers donate blankets to PM’s relief fund

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2017 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today appreciated the role of private sector in country’s economic development saying her government is always promoting the sector.

The prime minister said this while receiving blankets from the
representatives of different commercial banks of private sector at a function held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the capital today. PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said 33 commercial banks have donated about 18 lakh pieces of blankets to PM’s relief and welfare fund for distribution among poor cold-stricken people.

Thanking bankers for the donation she asked officials concerned to
distribute the quilts among poor people in country’s northern region,
Rohingyas and poor people in Cox’s Bazar district.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has attached importance to development
of rural areas aimed at generating employment opportunities there.

In this regard she mentioned the steps of her government taken to provide collateral free bank loan for share croppers and allow the farmers to open bank account at Taka 10 only.

People would be more benefitted when country’s economy would further
strengthen, she said, adding that her government’s pragmatic measures have taken country’s GDP growth to 7.28 percent and per capita income to $1,610.

President of Bangladesh Associations of Bankers (BAB) Nazrul Islam Majumder and chairmen, managing directors and CEOs of different commercial banks were present.

Earlier, the prime minister handed over cheques of donations among family members of six persons who were killed and injured in the attacks and bomb hurls by BNP-Jamaat activists and militants in different parts of the country in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

The prime minister also gave donation to Major A Z M Sakib Siddique for the treatment of his wife.
