DHAKA, Sept 12, 2018 (BSS) – A Dhaka court holding hearing of Zia Charitable Trust graft case against Begum Khaleda Zia and others adjourned the proceedings today till tomorrow as BNP chairperson declined to appear before the court.

Dhaka Fifth Special Judges Court situated inside the former Central Jail in capital’s Nazim Uddin Road initiated its day’s proceedings at the regular time with the presence of prosecution and defence counsels. But Khaleda Zia didn’t show up.

The jail authority sent custody warrant of Khaleda, saying she declined to appear before the court.

After that, the court heard both the prosecution and the defence on how the proceedings of the case will go on at this stage, whether to hold hearing in Khaleda’s absence, whether to cancel her bail.

The court then adjourned the hearing of the case till tomorrow, saying it would further hear the both parties on the matters.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with capital’s Tejgaon Police Station on August 8, 2010, for embezzling Taka 3.15 crore. Police on January 16, 2012, filed charge sheet against four including the BNP chief.

The other accused are Khaleda’s former political secretary Haris Chowdhury, Director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Ziaul Islam Munna and Monirul Islam Khan, former Personal Secretary of former Dhaka City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka.

Court framed charges against Khaleda and others in the case on March 19,
