Proposed Transport Act to be placed in JS on Sunday: Quader

DHAKA, Sept 12, 2018 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the proposed Road Transport Act 2018 will be placed before the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday.

“Later, the proposed act will be sent to a parliamentary standing committee. I hope that the act will be passed in the last session of the parliament in October,” he said, talking to the journalists after the 11th board meeting of Dhaka Road Transport Coordination Authority at Nagar Bhaban here.

Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, said one more session will be held after the current parliament session. “The ministers will do only their routine works after the declaration of the election schedule and there will be no responsibility of the lawmakers,” he added.

He said, “The next parliament elections of the country will be held like in other democratic countries. There is no scope of going beyond the constitution.”

Quader said Awami League will give a befitting reply along with the countrymen if BNP tries to create violence centering the upcoming national polls.

He said, “We will welcome any non-violent movement of BNP and will face it politically…If they want to create anarchy in the name of movement, then we will prevent it along with the common people.”

The ruling party general secretary said an overall movement is not possible by holding a hunger strike programme as it will need strength. BNP has no strength, he added.

About BNP’s demand on the resignation of prime minister ahead of the polls, Quader said such demands of BNP are ridiculous. “Who will take the charges, if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigns?” he added.

He said releasing BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia is a matter of the court. “The government has no power in this regard. Earlier, the court granted her bails in 30 cases. She didn’t get bails if the government interfered in the cases,” the minister added.

Quader said, “We will take decisions on the country’s all internal issues and will not bow down to any unconstitutional pressure from the outside.”

About the decision of the board meeting, the minister said the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has allocated 7 acres of land to construct a bus terminal in city’s eastern area. “I hope the construction of the bus terminal will be completed soon,” he added.

He directed the concerned authority to stop digging of roads from Tongi to Joydebpur till the next parliament polls to reduce the sufferings of the common people.

Dr Enamur Rahman, MP, Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun, MP, Shagufta Yeasmin, MP, and senior officials concerned were present in the meeting.
