DHAKA, Sept 12, 2018 (BSS) – Three convicted war criminals from Patuakhli today filed appeals with the apex court against the death sentences handed down to them by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on August 13.
“We filed appeals against the conviction for our clients Abdul Gani Hawlader, Abdul Awal alias Moulvi Awal and Solaiman Mridha,” said defence counsel advocate Abdus Sattar Palwan.
The ICT-1 on August 13 sentenced five war criminals from Patuakhali to death for committing crimes against humanity in 1971. The two other convicts are Esahaq Shikder and Abdus Sattar Pyada.
All the five convicts are in jail as the verdict was also delivered in their presence.
The first tribunal handed down maximum punishment to them as they were found guilty in both the charges framed against them.
