DHAKA, Sept 11, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Joint Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has introduced Bangladesh to the world as a militancy-free country.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared war against militancy and uprooted it from the country. Otherwise, Bangladesh would have turned a state like Pakistan where people return from mosques as dead,” he said while addressing a function of a five-day refreshers’ training course at Islamic Foundation here.

Islamic Foundation (IF) arranged the course for providing training to Imams, an IF press release said.

IF Director General Shamim Mohammad Afjal, its Secretary Kazi Nurul Islam, Imam Training Academy Director Jalal Ahmed and Research Division Director Nur Mohammad Alam, among others, spoke at the function.

“There is no room for establishing Maududism (political ideology of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami) in the country,” Nanak said, adding that all the bearded people wearing caps are not members of Jamaat.

Noting that the Prime Minister has given importance on Imams, he said the government has taken a project to build 560 model mosques across the country.

A doa and milad mahfil was also held at the head office of Islamic Foundation after Asr prayers today, acknowledging the ECNEC approval of building 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers at district and upazila levels.
