HC orders to close down 14 illegal hospitals, clinics
DHAKA, Sept 11, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered
authorities concerned to close down 14 illegal hospitals and clinics
operating in capital’s Mohammadpur area.
A High Court vacation bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and
Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding primary hearing on a writ
petition filed in this regard.
The court also issued a rule asking eight respondents including health
secretary, director general of Directorate General of Health Services, Dhaka
Metropolitan Police commissioner, officer in-charge of Mohammadpur police
station to reply in four weeks as to why the court shall not declare their
‘inaction’ in closing down those 14 hospitals, illegal.
The High Court also asked them to reply as to why it shall not pass order
to take legal actions against people involved in running those illegal
hospitals and clinics.
The court came up with the order as rights group Human Rights and Peace
for Bangladesh (HRPB) submitted a writ petition in this regard. Advocate
Manjil Morshed moved the writ for HRPB.
