Election-time govt likely in mid-October: Quader

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2018 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the election-time government is likely to be formed in mid-October.

“The polls-time government will be smaller in size as it will have no technocrat member,” he told a press conference at his ministry’s Road Transport and Highways Division conference room at the Secretariat here.

Asked how many members will be in the polls-time government, the minister said the number could be similar to that of the previous parliament election-time cabinet.

About the BNP’s announcement of forging national unity, Quader said BNP wants to forge a ‘nationalist communal’ coalition in the name of national unity ahead of the parliament election.

“There is no unity in BNP. How a party which has no unity can forge national unity?” he questioned.

He said BNP is doing politics over the illness of party chief Begum Khaleda Zia.

About BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s announcement that they would not let the election to be held without Begum Khaleda Zia, Quader said the party, which could not wage any movement in 10 years, cannot do it in next two months.

Asked about the role of foreign diplomats in domestic politics, the minister said the government hoped that the diplomats would not make any efforts that would harm the country’s sovereignty.

About their party programme, he said they arrange their programmes on weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday to avoid public sufferings.

He said they would make a trip to Patuakhali and Barguna by lunch on September 13 and another trip to Chottogram by road on September 22 to focus on the development activities of the government.
