DHAKA, Sept 11, 2018 (BSS) – Bringing an end to hassles faced by ship owners to secure survey certificates for their vessels, Ministry of Shipping is taking the process online as a part of government’s goal to establish Digital Bangladesh.

“Till now, owners had to face many hassles to get survey certificate for their vessels manually. But to make the process easier and transparent, the ministry has opted to take the process online so that the vessel owners can secure the certificate sitting in their homes,” Shipping Ministry spokesperson Md Jahangir Alam Khan told BSS.

The senior public relation official said to get the survey certificate, a vessel owner first have to get registered by clicking “online application” at Department of Shipping website www.dos.gov.bd .

“After that the vessel owner has to fill up the form online and submit it to surveyor of his choice and also submit the printed copy of the form along with other necessary documents to survey office,” Khan said.

“Then the surveyor will inspect the vessel and submit the papers to head office after filling up papers designated for him. The head office will check whether the application was made appropriately and then will send the correct application to chief inspector,” he added.

If all the documents are in place, the chief inspector then submit those to chief engineer and surveyor and after scrutinizing, he will send those to director general (DG) of Department of Shipping.

“After the DG’s approval and submission, the survey certificate will automatically go back to vessel owner and he will receive a confirmation message on his cell phone. Thus the owner will receive the survey certificate sitting at his home after application,” shipping ministry spokesman said.

Khan further said Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan will officially launch “Software for Inland Ship Management System” tomorrow at BIWTA auditorium, inaugurating the complete online service programme of Department of Shipping.
