Prosecution accuses Tarique of masterminding Aug 21 grenade attack

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2018 (BSS) – The prosecution today accused now fugitive BNP leader Tarique Rahman of masterminding the gruesome August 21, 2004 grenade attack to protract the BNP-Jamaat regime killing the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.

“The key person of Hawa Bhaban Tarique Rahman was directly involved in designing the blueprint and its execution . . . it (assault) was carried out on his assurance and cooperation,” prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajol told the court during arguments on law points.

Two cases over the grisly attack – one for murders and another for use of explosives – are being tried in Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal -1 at Old Dhaka’s Nazimuddin Road.

Kajol said they have submitted witnesses and evidences who gave financial support, provided grenade and launched the attack.

He said those, who launched the attack at the Bangabandhu Avenue, were criminals back from Afghanistan.
