Sri Lankan High Commissioner calls on UGC Chairman

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2018 (BSS) – Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Dhaka Crisanthe De Silva here today called on University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at UGC Bhaban.

During the meeting, Sri Lankan High Commissioner Crisanthe De Silva said the medical education imparted by Bangladeshi educational institutions is in high esteem in Sri Lanka, said a UGC press release.

Crisanthe also stressed the need for fostering bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka along with other SAARC countries.

They also discussed about the matters related to collecting additional fees for internship programme from the Sri Lankan medical students who graduated from the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC).

The UGC Chairman Mannan assured the Sri Lankan High Commissioner of resolving the problems immediately and asked the USTC authority to provide the original certificates to the Sri Lankan students by September 20, 2018. “Otherwise, UGC will issue a public notice asking the neighbouring countries not to send their students in USTC for medical education,” he warned.

Chittagong Medical University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Mohammad Ismail Khan, USTC VC Prof Dr Probhat Chandra Barua, Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, UGC members–Prof Dr Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali and representatives from Health, Education and Foreign Affairs Ministry were present in the meeting.
