Steps to legalize undocumented workers in Malaysia

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 10, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh High
Commission in Malaysia has undertaken 15 programmes to
legalize undocumented Bangladeshi migrant workers
there.

“We have undertaken various programmes to create scope
for undocumented workers to get legalization in
Malaysia,” Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment
Minister Nurul Islam BSc said today.

Replying to a question from treasury bench member M
Shafiqul Islam Shimul of Natore-2 in the Jatiya
Sangsad, he said the high commission in Kuala Lumpur
requested Malaysian government to stop detention and
give scope for legalization to undocumented workers
living in Malaysia.

In this regard, the Malaysian government provided e-
card to workers and later workers having e-card are
eligible to collect passport and register their names
in the rehearing programme, he said.

Islam said the high commission gave charge to three
vendor companies for managing registration in the
rehearing programme.

“Of the three vendor companies, workers have been urged
to get registration with their
employers/representatives to any vendor company and
aware them to avoid broker, agent or middleman in the
rehearing programme,” he said.

In the 15 programmes for legalization of undocumented
workers, the high commission as well as the government
distributed leaflets having Bangla language and
necessary information supplied to print and electronic
media to this end, he said.

“Meetings were held with owners of four thousands and
requested them to send their undocumented workers for
rehearing programmes for legalization,” the minister
said.

The minister said that Bangladesh High Commission, the
ministry and division is maintaining diplomatic
relations.
