DHAKA, Sept 10, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to demolish illegal infrastructures, which were not part of the Hatirjheel-Begunbari project layout, from Hatirjheel area by next seven days.

A High Court vacation bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order today after holding hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL).

The court also ordered to submit progress report on executing the order by next two weeks.

The High Court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to reply as to why the court shall not pass the order to stop construction of illegal infrastructures and safeguard Hatirjheel-Begunbari project as per the project layout.

“The court has ordered RAJUK chairman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station and the concerned project director to conduct regular monitoring in the area so that none can construct illegal infrastructure there,” advocate Manjil Morshed, who filed and moved the PIL, told newsmen.

Advocate Morshed filed the PIL for rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) after a report was carried out by a national daily on the issue on August 1.
