Nahid for practicing objective journalism for well-being of people

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today
urged journalists of both print and electronic media to boost development
process of the country.

“We want to practice objective journalism as it will create scope of
constructive criticism,” he told a function of Education Reporters
Association, Bangladesh (ERAB) at the International Mother Language Institute
(IMLI) here, an official release said.

Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Prof Abdul
Mannan, Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md
Sohrab Hossain, Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md
Alamgir, Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary
Education Prof Md Mahabubur Rahman, among others, addressed the function with
ERAB President Siddiqur Rahman in the chair.

Nahid said, “We welcome constructive criticism from journalists as it can
help us take right decision for further development of the education sector.”
He urged the ERAB to extend their support through projecting real picture of
education sector to supplement the efforts of the government for achieving
Sustainable Development Goal-4.

Nahid said despite a number of challenges, Bangladesh has some remarkable
and praiseworthy achievements in the education sector.

“Distribution of free textbooks among the students of primary and secondary
levels, increased enrolment rate and eradicating gender inequality in primary
and secondary education have already been acknowledged in different
international forums,” he added.
