Country goes back to darkness if BNP resumes power: Quader

SIRAJGANJ, Nov 22, 2017 (BSS) – General Secretary of the Awami League and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader here today said the country will be plunged into darkness if BNP comes to power again.

“The country has been heading towards light and prosperity under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina replacing the darkness during the BNP regime. The country will once again fall into darkness if BNP resumes power,” he said as the chief guest while addressing a memorial meeting marking the 14th death anniversary of Professor Mazharul Islam at Shahjadpur Upazila here.

Describing shedding tears by the BNP Secretary General as crocodile tears, he said, “Our eyes have turned dry after shedding tears as 21,000 leaders and activists of the Awami League were killed after BNP came into power in 2001.”

Talking about the Rohingya issue, the AL leader said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set a rare example of humanity after giving shelter to 6.25 lakh Rohingyas which is praised by the world community.”

Pointing fingers at BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he said, “She (Khaleda Zia) and her party’s secretary general went to Rohingya camps at Cox’s Bazar only for photo-session and creating troubles while I myself went to Cox’s Bazar for 25 times to address their plights.”

Advisory council member of the AL Professor Abdul Khaleque presided over the memorial meeting. Among others, organizing secretary of the AL Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, international affairs secretary Shammi Ahmed, central committee members Parvin Zaman Kalpana and Merina Islam Kabita, Sirajganj district AL president, Abdul Latif Biswas, acting general secretary Dr Habibe Millat Munna, MP, Shamsul Hoque Tuku, MP, and Hasibur Rahman Swapon, MP, were present on the occasion.
