KASHMIR-BODY-RECOVERY

2 trekkers’ bodies retrieved from glacier in India-controlled-Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Sept. 9, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – The bodies of two trekkers who fell
into a crevasse of the Kolahoi glacier in Indian-controlled Kashmir on
Saturday and died, have been retrieved and airlifted to Srinagar, confirmed
Indian Air Force (IAF) sources on Sunday.

It was a tough rescue mission as the spot was at a height of 12,000 feet in
a difficult terrain with no place for rescuing helicopters to land, said IAF
sources.

Identified as Naveed Jilani and Adil Shah, both natives of India-
controlled-Kashmir, the two trekkers died on Saturday.

The third trekker identified as Hazik Mushtaq Beigh who had received
serious injuries, fortunately survived. His rescue was prioritized, and was
administered medical aid in a hospital, said the sources.

The trio was a part of 10 trekkers who were returning from Kolahoi glacier,
when they suddenly fell into a crevasse.

According to the IAF sources, “cheetah” helicopters of the “Hovering Hawks”
unit were pressed into service to carry out the rescue work.

Kolahoi glacier is a valley glacier in the northwestern Himalayan Range.
