RANGPUR, Nov 22, 2017 (BSS) – Government officials concerned at a public hearing function today called upon the businesspersons and consumers for paying value added tax (VAT) and other taxes properly to strengthen national economy.
They came up with the call at the function organised by the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate of Rangpur on VAT and taxes at Zila Parishad Community Centre in the city.
Officials of the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, leaders of different business organisations, VAT and tax payers, traders, businesspersons and elite were present.
Divisional Commissioner of Customs and Excise and VAT Commissionerate AKM Ahsanul Haque addressed the function as chief guest and answered questions asked by the VAT and tax payers on the new VAT law and other issues.
Joint Commissioner of Rangpur Tax Region Ashraful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Fakhrul Amin Chowdhury, Executive Magistrate Mohiuddin Jahangir, noted businessman Sheikh Minnur Rahman, addressed as special guests.
Assistant Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Rezvi Ahmed, Shushanto Paul, Mostafizur Rahman, Md Al-Amin, Moshiar Rahman Mandal, Mahbubur Rahman and Revenue Officer Md Aiyub, were present.
The speakers called for creating adequate awareness among all concerned to enhance revenue earning in the form of VAT and taxes for strengthening the national economy to further accelerate the pace of current development.
The chief guest said the government has launched the new VAT law to make the process of paying VAT easy in a hassle-free manner by the businesspersons as well as common consumers.
“Many least developed countries have become developed countries as their citizens pay VAT and taxes properly,” he said. He called upon all concerned for paying VAT and other taxes to turn Bangladesh into a middle income nation by 2021, and subsequently a developed country by 2041.
