DHAKA, Nov 22, 2017 (BSS) – The government has taken a massive nationwide programme to celebrate on November 25 the UNESCO recognition to the historic March 7 Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage.
As part of the programme, jubilant processions, essay and quiz competitions and screening of films on the Liberation War will be held. Bangladesh missions abroad will also hold the similar programmes, official sources told BSS.
The government has planned stringent security measures with deployment of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar and different intelligence agencies to hold the nationwide programme peacefully.
A preparatory meeting was held recently with Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam in the chair to make the programmes a success.
The government has formed a high-powered committee with Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry as its convener.
The programme will start with holding nationwide jubilant processions around 10am on November 25.
The local administrations have been asked to hold the processions with ensuring participation of the public representatives, freedom fighters, civil society members, locals, children and youths.
Educational institutions across the country have been asked to organize essay, quiz and general knowledge competitions on the March 7 Speech.
Information Ministry, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasa Education Division, district and upzaila administrations have been entrusted with the responsibility of supervising the programme.
In Dhaka city, a discussion, cultural function and laser light show will be held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, where Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered the landmark March 7 Speech in a mammoth gathering.
The Information Ministry, in a press release, today said the main jubilant procession will begin from Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in city’s Dhanmondi at 2 pm which will end coming at the Suhrawardy Udyan at 3pm.
Journalists and employees of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) will join the rally.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels will air the programmes live while newspapers will publish special supplements on the day.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) recognised the historic March 7 Speech of Bangabandhu as part of world’s documentary heritage on October 30.
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova announced it, saying the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu has been included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world’s important documentary heritage maintained by the UNESCO.
