Farmers cultivate Boro on 1.29 lakh hectares in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Nov 22, 2017 (BSS) – Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) fixed a target of Boro cultivation on 1,29,700 hectares of land with the production target of 5,18,231 tonnes of rice in the upcoming season in the district.

DAE office sources said of the total land, hybrid variety on 20,910 hectares with a production target of 99,324 tonnes, High Yielding Variety (HYV) on 1,08,240 hectares with a production target 41,7807 tonnes and local variety on 550 hectares with a production target 1100 tonnes of rice.

The office said 33700 hectares of land in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, 19,260 hectares in Sarishabari, 21,000 hectares in Melandaha, 16,500 hectares in Islampur, 9,200 hectares in Dewanganj, 17,690 hectares in Madarganj and 12,350 hectares in Bakshiganj upazila will be brought under the Boro cultivation.

The targets of seed bed of hybrid on 1,045 hectares, HYV on 6,015 hectares and local on 35 hectares were fixed. The office said against the target farmers prepared 290 hectares seed bed till November 21.

Deputy Director, Seed Marketing, M Reazul Islam Tutul said 921 tonnes quality Boro seed was allotted in the current Robi season of the district for selling among the farmers.

Training Officer of DAE M Abu Hanif said the farmers have already started for preparing seed bed of Boro paddy and they will begin planting of Boro paddy from the first week of January 2018.
