Hanif urges Islamic scholars to help restore morals in society

DHAKA, Sept 07, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League joint general secretary Mahabub-ul-Alam

Hanif today urged the Imams and Islamic scholars to come forward to restore morality,

honesty and values in the society.

“Moral degradation is a major problem in our society . . . The Imams and Alems

(Islamic scholars) can revive morality, honesty and values of people,” he said while

inaugurating a five-day freshers’ training course for Imams at Imam Training Academy at

Agargaon here.

Terming Jama’at-e-Islami a very harmful organisation against Islam, Hanif said they

are distorting Islam and using it as a weapon of politics. They also stood against the

1971 Bangladesh Independence in the name of the religion, he added.

Recalling the contribution of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to

promoting true Islam countrywide, he said Bangabandhu established the Islamic Foundation

and also allotted land for the Biswa Ijtema (congregation) venue at Tongi in Gazipur.

“The Father of the Nation prohibited horse-race at the Racecourse Maiden (now known as

Suhrawardy Uddyan), boozing, gambling and housie,” the ruling AL leader mentioned.

About BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment, he said she (Begum Zia)

tarnished the reputation of the country as she is in jail on charge of theft of poor’s

properties and urged BNP to prove their leader innocent through legal battle.

“The government has set up court in prison to ensure the security of Begum Zia,” Hanif

added.

Director General (DG) of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) Shamim Mohammad Afzal

presided over the function.

IFB secretary Kazi Nurul Islam, IFB Board of Governor Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Imam Training

Academy Director Jalal Ahmed, IFB Manager (Media) Borhan Uddin Mohammad Abu Ahsan and

Planning Director Muhammad Rafiq-Ul-Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Over one hundred Imams from different parts of the country took part in the five-day

training course.
