Proper selection of beneficiaries for SSNPs underscored

RANGPUR, Sept 7, 2018 (BSS) – Proper selection of beneficiaries for the
social safety net programmes (SSNPs) has become indispensable to sustainably
eliminate poverty from the society for achieving the sustainable development
goals (SDGs).

Government officials and development activists came up with the opinion
on Thursday at an interrelationship improvement meeting held at Khanpur union
parisahd hall room under Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur.

With sponsorship of the European Union, the World Vision Bangladesh
(WVB) and ‘Pollishree’ jointly organised the meeting under the “Establishing
Vulnerable People’s Rights to Social Safety Net Programmes (EVPRA) project.

Fulbari Upazila Primary Education Officer Minara Khatun addressed the
meeting as the chief guest with Chairman of Khanpur union parisahd Md Aiyub
Ali in the chair.

Upazila Assistant Primary Education Officer Sanjida Sharmin, Monitoring
Officer of the EVPRA project of Pollishree’ Tarikul Islam, its Senior
Community Development Specialists Saiful Islam and Sohel Rana, among others,
addressed the meeting.

Tarikul Islam discussed the project activities being conducted in the
upazila to enhance coordination among the stakeholders concerned to ensure
proper enlistment of the most vulnerable people as beneficiaries of the
SSNPs.

Union Chairman Aiyub Ali said the comprehensive SSNPs of the government
have effectively reduced poverty meeting emergency need of the most
vulnerable, poor and distressed people.

“The SSNPs could be implemented more effectively if relations among all
stakeholder departments and organisations could be improved further for
accurately selecting the vulnerable and ultra poor people as beneficiaries of
the programmes,” he said.

The chief guest put emphasis on better coordination among all
stakeholders of the beneficiary selection process to avoid overlapping
through ensuring inclusion of every deserving citizen for the SSNPs to cut
their poverty on way to achieve the SDGs.
