RAJSHAHI, Sept 6, 2018 (BSS)- Scientists and researchers at a discussion called for more indepth research on biochemistry and molecular biology to meet its growing demand in both home and abroad.
They revealed that research on biochemistry can play important role in sustainable development and that why emphasis should be given on expanding its research field.
They said this while addressing a daylong international conference at Senate Building of Rajshahi University (RU) here today.
RU’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology organized the conference titled “Translational Research in Biochemistry for Better Life and Sustainable Development” in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project.
The conference brought renowned national and international scientists, entrepreneurs and researchers together and they exchanged their views, experiences, necessities, opportunities and difficulties in translational research.
Pro-Vice-chancellor of RU Professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and its Science Faculty Dean Prof Khalilur Rahman Khan addressed the conference as chief and special guests respectively with Chairman of the department Professor Matiur Rahman in the chair.
Co-convener of the conference Prof Tofazzal Hossain welcomed the participants.
A large number of teachers, scientists, researchers and professionals from different countries including Japan, India, Malaysia and hosts Bangladesh joined the conference presenting around 88 research papers in three academic sessions.
In his remarks, Prof Shaha said the economy of Bangladesh is growing steadily with increasing per capita income and average life expectancy of the people. A huge number of new information is generated in basic or laboratory-based research all over the world.
Translation of laboratory findings to industrial, agricultural, clinical and other applications is a big challenge today. Bridging the gap between the laboratory research and real demand of the country makes its economy sustainable.
He added that most of our research is far from the actual national demand, priorities and needs. Prof Shaha, however, believes that the ideas and experiences shared by the scientists, researchers, academics and entrepreneurs will facilitate development of translational research in our university and the other institutions in both home and abroad.
