President for optimum use of electricity, gas

DHAKA, Sept 5, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today put emphasis on optimum use of electricity and natural gas for the greater interest of the country.

“Production of electricity and natural gas is costly as it is time-consuming . . . So ensure the proper use of these valuable resources on an urgent basis,” he said in a message on the eve of the National Power and Energy Week 2018.

Noting that sustainable development and modern progress cannot be imagined without power and energy, Abdul Hamid said it is mandatory to reach the electricity at all people’s doorsteps to get the good results of technology.

“The necessity of electricity and energy is very significant to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and developed one by 204,” he observed.

The President said the incumbent government has taken different pragmatic steps in electricity generation, transmission and distribution to continue the economic growth of the country.

Mentioning that the electricity production has reached to 20,000 megawatts at present due to setting up of new power plants and more 660 MW electricity is being imported from India, the President said, “The government is firm to reach the uninterrupted electricity supply to door-to-door throughout the country by 2021.”

The energy sector, President Hamid said, is also doing tremendous progress in energy sector and the government has also taken various steps in exploring gas and increasing its production.

He said since 2009 four new gas fields have already been discovered and the daily average gas production has increased to 2,750 million cubic feet per day which was 1,744 mcft per day.

The President said the observance of the week would inspire people to stop misuse of the power and energy.
