Ensuring rights of ethnic minorities stressed

RAJSHAHI, Sept 3, 2018 (BSS) – Development activists and academics at a
discussion stressed the need for protecting the rights and developing the
livelihood conditions of ethnic minorities living in the country’s northwest
region.

They said the ethnic people were always deprived of land rights, food,
healthcare, education and cultural facilities, so the government should take
effective steps to ensure their rights apart from meeting their other
demands.

The discussion was arranged on Shahmukhdum Degree College premises in the
city, marking the silver jubilee celebration of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad
(JAP).

JAP chief adviser and convener of parliamentary caucus on ethnic minority
affairs Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief
guest while writer Prof Hassan Azizul Haque opened the celebration programme.

Chaired by JAP central committee president Rabindra Nath Saren, the
meeting was addressed, among others, by principal of the college Rejaul
Islam, JAP advisers Rafiqul Islam Piarul and Ashoke Sarker, and JAP leaders
Bimal Chandra Rajoad, Bichitra Tirky and Andriash Biswas.

Badsha called for freeing the ethnic communities from the vicious cycle
of poverty to make them fit for all the nation-building activities.

He said importance should be given on protecting the underprivileged
people from all sort of deceptions.

Badsha underscored for establishing social justice towards the plain land
ethnic communities through removing all sorts of disparity.

To mark the celebration, the JAP and its other front organisations
earlier jointly brought out a colourful rally which paraded different roads.
