DHAKA, Sept 3, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon today said although the number of people suffering from dengue fever has increased a little bit in the city compared to the previous years, the situation is still under control.
“Even it is not such a situation to be panicked over the recent dengue outbreak,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of a two-week crash programme taken to eradicate Aedes mosquito larvae to control dengue outbreak in the capital.
The mayor inaugurated the programme in the city’s Easkaton Garden area by spraying fume from a fogger machine at an under-construction Navy information-centre building.
The crash programme will simultaneously continue at 57 wards across the city, he said, adding that the representatives of the city corporation would go from house to house and destroy Aedes mosquito larvae and clear up their breeding grounds.
Khokan said they also will make the city dwellers aware of the dangers of Aedes mosquito breeding and its outbreak.
He urged the Dhaka North City Corporation to launch a similar programme to eradicate dengue, saying mosquito has no specific abode as they migrate from one place to another.
Seeking cooperation from all to address dengue, the DSCC mayor said a dengue-free city would be presented to its city dwellers soon with the combined efforts.
He distributed leaflets among shopkeepers and students in the area to create awareness about the adverse impacts of dengue. Representatives from Red Crescent Society took part in the programme.
DSCC Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Dr Sheikh Salahuddin and Councilors Kamruzzaman Kamal and Hasibur Rahman Manik were, among others, present on the
occasion.
