Two-day International Poetry Festival ends in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 03, 2018 (BSS) – The two-day forth International Poetry
Festival ended amid huge enthusiasm and colourful concluding ceremony held at
conference room of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the city last
night.

Over 150 poets of Bangladesh, India and Nepal participated in the
festival arranged by Rangpur-based reputed literary newspaper the ‘Natun
Shahittya Potrika’.

Earlier, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman inaugurated the festival as
the chief guest in the launching ceremony held on Saturday afternoon with
noted educationist Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin in the chair.

Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping and poet Md Abdus Samad Faruk
attended the concluding ceremony as the chief guest with Convener of the
festival and Editor of the ‘Natun Shahittya Potrika’ Poet Mahfil Haque in the
chair.

Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin and Additional Secretary of the Ministry
of Shipping poet Mohammad Abdul Mannan, poet Nurul Islam Sarder also
addressed the concluding function.

Indian poets Alok Bandopaddhya, Sankar Saha, Shahnewaz Rahamatullah and
Dilruba Ahmed, Nepalese poets Bhabana Pakhrel, Sochir Bahadur and Hemraj
Pandit, Matiur Rahman Basunia, Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, Rafikur Rashid, Shakil
Masud and other poets recited their self-composed poetries.

The distinguished poets of the three countries formally unveiled cover
of the special edition of the ‘Natun Shahittya Potrika’ published on the
occasion in the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, the chief guest said poems are
sources of feeling, inspiration, expression, love, affection, beauty,
sadness, agony, hope, cheer, and joy of the human being, society and
civilization as a whole.

Noted fiction writer Anwara Syed Haq, cultural personality Biplob
Prasad, Director (News) of Bangladesh Television poet Nasir Ahmed, Director
of Nazrul Institute poet Reza Uddin Stalin, Additional Secretary of the
Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment poet Aminul Islam,
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Rajshahi University Professor Anik Mahmud also
attended the festival coordinated by Member-secretary of the festival poet
Lutfar Rahman Shaju.

Hundreds of people including poets, writers, educationists, youths,
students, socio-cultural activists and professionals enjoyed poetry
recitations, discussions and cultural functions in different sessions of the
two-day festival.
