ABT man held over three bloggers murder

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2017 (BSS) – Police arrested an operative of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) for his suspected involvement in killings of bloggers Avijit Roy, Niloy and Dipon from the city’s Turag area on Saturday afternoon.

“We arrested an ABT man named Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon alias Shahriar from Baunia area in Turag Police Station around 4.35pm on Saturday afternoon,” said an official of counter terrorism unit of police today.

During the preliminary interrogation, Saimon confessed his link to the killings of Bangladeshi born US citizen Avijit Roy, Niloy and Dipon, he said, adding that he took part in the killing of Avijit at the directive of their big brother fugitive Major Zia.

Saimon also confessed to involving the murders of rights activists Xulhaz Mannan and Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy, the official continued.

Saimon’s organisatinal name in the Ansar Al Islam (Ansarullah Bangla Team) is Shahriar and he has been entrusted with supervising social networking sites, “Jongir Sathe Kothopokothon”, “facebook page,” “Balakat Media,” “Al Hikma Media” and Onsondhisu Media.

Earlier police arrested an operative of the intelligence wing member of the ABT Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab for his suspected link to the killing of blogger Avijit Roy from the city’s Mohammadpur area on November 5.

On February 26 in 2015, ABT men killed Avijit Roy and critically injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Bannya near TSC square during the Ekushey book fair. Both of them were Bangladeshi born United States (US) citizens.
