Sheikh Hasina said the killers of Bangabandhu had not only killed him, but also intrigued to erase the country’s history. But they failed to do that as Bangabandhu and history of Bangladesh were very much rooted to common masses.

“Truth cannot be suppressed forever…. So, UNESCO recognized the speech of Bangabandhu by listing it in the Memory of the World Heritage as one of the world’s important documents”, she added.

Bangabandhu became a great political leader growing up from people, and he dedicated his whole life for their welfare, the prime minister said. Bangabandhu has set an example of utmost dedication and history recognizes and honours only those leaders who work with dedication for changing the lots of people, she said.

“All of us tell about ideology, and the most important thing for a political worker is to accept an ideology and strictly follow the ideology if he or she wishes to contribute to the society,” she said.

In this regard the prime minister highlighted the sacrifice of her mother Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib saying ‘my mother during her life time led a simple life, even after Bangabandhu became the prime minister.

Bangamata even didn’t try to escape death but embraced it during the carnage on August 15, 1975, she said.

Urging the BCL leaders to learn from the life of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, the prime minister said she was not afraid of the danger of death threats as several attempts were made on her life in the past.

Even after coming to power, Sheikh Hasina said, she never tried to lead a luxurious life and capitalize on politics for achieving any personal gain. Amidst all dangers she has been making relentless efforts to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu and safeguard the basic rights of the people, the prime minister said.

“Within ten years we have made Bangladesh a role model of development and it was not possible if we would have thought of our personal gains,” Sheikh Hasina said.

Praising the role of Chhatra League in all past political movements, the prime minister said all successes of the people of Bangladesh came through sacrifices of BCL leaders and workers.

BCL made immense sacrifice for every achievement of the nation and BCL leaders and workers embraced martyrdom in the movements against Ayub Khan, Ziaur Rahman, Ershad and Khaleda Zia, she said.

Sheikh Hasina urged the BCL leaders to build the organization as an ideological platform and acquire knowledge to take up the future leadership of the country to advance the nation.
