DHAKA, Aug 31, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the ‘ghosts’ of anti-liberation forces and killers of Bangabandhu are still roaming around and hatching conspiracy to thwart nation’s peace and progress.

“The evil force and some so-called civil society members and intellectuals have tried to achieve political gain capitalizing on the sentiments of the agitating school children after tragic death of two school children,” she said.

The prime minister was addressing a discussion organized by Bangladesh Chhatra League at Gonobhaban marking the National Mourning Day.

“The opportunists tried to spread falsehood and instigate people by taking the advantage of social media, a contribution of Awami League,” she said.

“Lives of many children might have been endangered because of their instigation… but they didn’t think of the danger for a single time while they were trying to take advantage of the children’s protest,” she added.

Sheikh Hasina said a section of civil society members raised hue and cry as the government took appropriate action against the instigators. They are also trying to put pressure from across the global.

“But, everybody should keep in mind that the government would never compromise or succumb to any pressure on the question of ethics,” she said.

President of BCL Rezwanul Haque Chowdury and General Secretary Golam Rabbani also spoke on the occasion.

Urging the Chhatra League leaders to nourish the principles of ideology and sacrifice, the prime minister said they (student leaders) should not be lured to the posts and positions in the party as taught by Bangabandhu.

“Even being the offspring of Bangabandhu, I and my brother Kamal worked as activists of the party and discharged our duties as the party had bestowed upon us in the political interests,” Sheikh Hasina said.

Sheikh Hasina said the killers of Bangabandhu had not only killed him, but also intrigued to erase the country’s history. But they failed to do that as Bangabandhu and history of Bangladesh were very much rooted to common masses.

“Truth cannot be suppressed forever…. So, UNESCO recognized the speech of Bangabandhu by listing it in the Memory of the World Heritage as one of the world’s important documents”, she added.

Bangabandhu became a great political leader growing up from people, and he dedicated his whole life for their welfare, the prime minister said. Bangabandhu has set an example of utmost dedication and history recognizes and honours only those leaders who work with dedication for changing the lots of people, she said.

“All of us tell about ideology, and the most important thing for a political worker is to accept an ideology and strictly follow the ideology if he or she wishes to contribute to the society,” she said.

In this regard the prime minister highlighted the sacrifice of her mother Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib saying ‘my mother during her life time led a simple life, even after Bangabandhu became the prime minister.

Bangamata even didn’t try to escape death but embraced it during the carnage on August 15, 1975, she said.

Urging the BCL leaders to learn from the life of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, the prime minister said she was not afraid of the danger of death threats as several attempts were made on her life in the past.

Even after coming to power, Sheikh Hasina said, she never tried to lead a luxurious life and capitalize on politics for achieving any personal gain. Amidst all dangers she has been making relentless efforts to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu and safeguard the basic rights of the people, the prime minister said.

“Within ten years we have made Bangladesh a role model of development and it was not possible if we would have thought of our personal gains,” Sheikh Hasina said.

Praising the role of Chhatra League in all past political movements, the prime minister said all successes of the people of Bangladesh came through sacrifices of BCL leaders and workers.

BCL made immense sacrifice for every achievement of the nation and BCL leaders and workers embraced martyrdom in the movements against Ayub Khan, Ziaur Rahman, Ershad and Khaleda Zia, she said.

Sheikh Hasina urged the BCL leaders to build the organization as an ideological platform and acquire knowledge to take up the future leadership of the country to advance the nation.
