Contribution of journalists Sarwar, Moazzem recalled

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2018 (BSS) – Senior journalists at a memorial meeting recalled the contribution of the Dainik Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar and the Financial Express Editor AHM Moazzem Hossain.

Paying rich tributes to the veteran journalists, they said Sarwar and Moazzem were doyen in the field of journalism. The memorial meeting was held at the auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) today.

Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Editor of the daily News Today Riaz Uddin Ahmed, Publisher of the daily Samakal AK Azad, former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul, Senior Journalist Abed Khan, Acting Editor of the daily Jugantor Saiful Alam and General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club Farida Yesmin, among others, addressed the meeting.

Iqbal Sobhan said both Sarwar and Moazzem upheld professionalism through their sincerity and devotion to journalism. Their works would inspire the new generation, he added.

Other speakers said demises of Sarwar and Moazzem created an irreplaceable vacuum in Bangladesh’s journalism, especially at a moment where their astute guidance and experienced mentorship were most needed.

Their contributions will be remembered in the field of journalism because they practiced objective journalism for development of the country, they added.

Golam Sarwar died August 13 at a Singapore hospital at the age of 75 years and AHM Moazzem Hossain died at the city’s Square Hospital on August 1.

Born on April 1, 1943 at Banaripara of Barisal, Sarwar obtained his Honors and Master’s degrees from Dhaka University. Golam Sarwar got the Ekushey Padak in journalism in 2014.

Moazzem did Honours Graduate (1967) and post-Graduate (1968) in Economics from Dhaka University.

He was a recipient of Life Term Achievement Award of Economic Reporters Forum for Excellence in Economic Journalism, the Distinguished Professional Award for Journalism by Mercantile Bank Limited and Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury National Award for Journalism.
