Govt takes steps to increase crop production at CHT: Bir Bahadur

BANDARBAN, Aug 31, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts
Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing today said the government has taken various
steps to increase food production in the hill tract.

The minister said the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) with
Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute is trying to boost food production in
Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari districts so that cultivators can
produce crops two-three times on the same land in a year.

The state minister said this as the chief guest while inaugurating a sub-
station of Sugarcane Research Institute at Lemujiri Agapara area here this
afternoon.

As part of the programme, Bir Bahadur said the government has established
the Bandarban sub-station of the Sugarcane Research Institute at a cost of
nearly Taka one crore.

Chaired by Sugarcane Research Institute Director General (DG) Dr M Amzad
Hossen, the programme was also attended by Executive Director of Krishi
Gobeshona Foundation Dr Waes Kabir, DAE’s Additional Director Pronob
Bhattachariya, Additional Deputy Commissioner M Shafiul Alam and district
council member Lakhipada Das.
