UK to continue its support for ICDDR’B

DHAKA, Aug, 30 2018 (BSS)-British Minister of State for International Development Alistair Burt today lauded the activities of ICDDR’B and said his government wants to continue to be associated with the organization.

“I am deeply impressed by what you are doing and also the way you are handling the emergency situations. It was great to see such innovations and capacity from the tour of the hospital and laboratory facilities,” said Minister Burt while visiting its Mahakhali campus here today.

“I really appreciate your work and I would like to thank you on behalf of both the British Prime Minister and Secretary of State who want to continue to be associated with you and value this relationship very much,” he said.

British High Commissioner in Dhaka Alison Blake and Head of Department of International Development (DFID) Bangladesh Jim McAlpine accompanied Alistair Burt during the visit, said an ICDDRB media release.

ICDDRB’s Acting Executive Director Dr. Shams Ei Arifeen, presented an overview of the UK and ICDDRB’s decades long life-saving partnership.

Emeritus Scientist Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Head of Hospitals Dr. Azharul Islam Khan explained the humanitarian response in the Rohingya camps.

DFID has been supporting ICDDRB’s life saving work since 1975 and helped revitalize its research operations which had been disrupted by the liberation war of 1971.
