Flourishing jute textile, light engineering sector underscored

RANGPUR, Aug 30, 2018 (BSS) – Industrialists have stressed on
flourishing the jute textile and light engineering sector to create huge
employments for accelerating economic development in the northwestern region.

They made the view at the meeting on the ‘Securing Employment and
Economic Development around Jute Textile and Light Engineering Sector in
North-west Bangladesh’ project held at meeting room of Rangpur Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Wednesday.

International development organisation Practical Action Bangladesh (PAB)
with assistance of the European Union and RCCI organised the event for
members of Board of Directors of RCCI, industrialists and entrepreneurs for
realisation of the project.

In the beginning, Agricultural and Jute Specialist of PAB Alamgir
Chowdhury delivered PowerPoint presentation on prospects of the Jute Textile
and Light Engineering Industry in the meeting moderated by PAB Officer
Protima Dutta.

Senior Vice-president of RCCI Mostoba Hossain Ripan, its Directors
Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, Reaz Shahid Shovan, Partho Bose, Shajahan Babu,
Obaidur Rahman Ratan and Khemchand Rabi Somani, Agriculturist of PAB Nirmal
Chandra Bapari and its Agriculture Engineer Rezaul Islam participated in the
open discussion.

RCCI President Sohrab Chowdhury Titu said, “There is no alternative to
establishing eco-friendly industries for sustainable economic advancement to
implement the Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 and achieve the sustainable
development goals (SDGs).”

“At the present global context, a brighter prospect is prevailing for
Bangladesh to fetch huge foreign currency through exporting raw jute and jute
products to many countries having mammoth demand of these eco-friendly
products,” he said.

He put special emphasis on diversification of the eco-friendly jute products
for promoting export side by side with flourishing all prevailing prospects
of the jute and jute textile sector in the northwestern Bangladesh.

Terming the light engineering sector as the mother industry for other
industrial sectors, Titu stressed on flourishing the sector to produce all
necessary spare parts and accessories for repairing, servicing and keeping
other industries in operation.

He urged the PAB authorities to extended necessary assistance to
flourish the potential Jute Textile and Light Engineering Sector in the
northwestern Bangladesh for creating massive employment and accelerating
economic progress in the region.
