DHAKA, Aug 29, 2018 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertaking today recommended to take necessary steps for stopping riverbank erosion in Shariatpur district.

The recommendation came at a meeting of the committee with its Chairman Shawkat Ali in the chair, an official release said.

Members of the committee — Md Abdul Wadud and Abdur Rauf — attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the committee discussed the overall activities of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and the current situation of riverbank erosion.

All rivers of Shariatpur district witnessed riverbank erosion. Around 15-kilometer area in Naria and Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district were devoured by the Padma river while the Meghna river eroded 10-kilometer area in Gosaihat upazila.

Signboards inscribing all necessary information were set up at the riverbank erosion sites for ensuring transparency and accountability of BWDB.
