Dhaka attaches importance to ties with Delhi: Kamal

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2 018 (BSS) – Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said Bangladesh attaches highest importance to its relations with India.

“The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh has taken the policy based on good relations, faith, mutual interest and respect to build ties with India,” he said during a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the third Indian Ocean Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Different issues, including new power projects and electricity export from West Bengal and Indian eastern parts, Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) motor vehicles agreement (MVA), Bangladesh’s “Zero Tolerance” policy against terrorism and militancy and repatriation of Rohingyas, came up for discussion during the meeting held on the first day of the two-day conference, said a press release here.

Kamal informed the Indian minister that a total of 1000 acres of land were allocated at Mirsharai of Chattogram to establish Indian Special Economic Zone while the work on Mongla and Bheramara Special Economic Zone would start soon.

The Indian External Affairs Minister expressed her satisfaction over the existing bilateral, trade and investment relations between India and Bangladesh.

The planning minister hoped that India would create pressure on Myanmar for safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas, who fled to Bangladesh territory being the worst victims of the military atrocities in their ancestral land at Rakhine state.
