No bar to send Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia: Nurul

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc today there is no bar to send Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia.

“The government has made all-out efforts to continue sending Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia. Next decision over sending workers will be taken after holding joint working group meeting with Malaysian government,” he told a press conference at the ministry meeting room.

The minister said some changes could be made in the system of sending workers.

Nurul said Malaysian new government has canceled Sistem Permohonan Pekerja Asing for receiving Bangladesh workers.

So no visa will come any more through the system but those who have already received visa through the system can go Malaysia, he added.

The minister also said from now workers can go Malaysia through the old system.

He said if any irregularity is found over sending workers to Malaysia, legal actions will be taken against those involved with it.

Nurul said the Malaysian government had a demand of 2.69 lakh workers. Malaysian embassy has issued visa to 2.35 workers and 32 thousand visas could not be issued due to flaws of 86 companies, he said. The minister said his ministry has approved 2 lakh workers and around 30,000 others are awaited for getting permission.

He said those who have valid visa and legal documents can go Malaysia.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Dr Nomita Halder and Additional Secretary Aminul Islam were present on the occasion, among others.

As many as 1,09,562 workers went to Malaysia till July this year while at present around 9 lakh Bangladeshi workers are working in the country.
