Japan to give Tk211.74cr for enhancing rescue capacity of Coast Guard

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2018 (BSS) – Japan will give Taka 211.74 crore or 2,729 million Japanese Yen as grant for enhancing the rescue capacity of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

The agreement was signed today by Economic Relations Division (ERD) secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam and the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Bangladesh Hitoshi Hirata at ERD conference room in the city.

In this regard, an exchange of notes agreement was also signed between the ERD Secretary and Japanese Ambassador to Dhaka Hiroyasu Izumi.

Japan is providing the grant under a project titled “The Project for Improvement of Rescue Capacities in the Coastal and Inland Waters”.

Under the project, a total of 24 rescue boats will be handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard as they can play more roles for rescuing people at the time of disasters.

Besides, Bangladesh Coast Guard can increase their activities for preventing illegal immigration through the sea, smuggling, trafficking of illegal arms, drugs and narcotics after implementation of the project.
