GO-NGO joint efforts for maintaining cleanliness stressed

RANGPUR, Aug 27, 2018 (BSS) – Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa
today stressed on comprehensive GO-NGO efforts to ensure better garbage
management for maintaining cleanliness to improve environment in the city.

Mostafa said this while receiving 26 mobile garbage vans from World Vision
Bangladesh (WVB), an NGO, in a function held on the City Bhaban premises here
as the chief guest.

The NGO under its Area Development Programme handed over the garbage vans
to Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) to collect household wastes for quicker
disposal to protect the environment from pollution and maintain cleanliness
in the city.

With City Panel Mayor Shamsul Haque in the chair, Rangpur Area Programme
Cluster Manager of WVB Stephen Halder Ruven attended the event as special
guest.

City Councilors Mahbub Morshed Shamim, Sekendar Ali, Rahamat Ullah Babla,
Malek Niaz Arzoo, Muntaseer Shamim Laiko, Monwar begum Moly, Nazmun Nahar
Nazma and Programme Officers of WVB Jullian Biswas and Rita Rani Christa were
present.

The mayor termed sound health as the most important wealth and stressed on
timely disposal of household wastes to keep the city clean for improving
environment.

“We must keep the air fresh for ensuring sound health of every citizen,” he
said and sought cooperation of all concerned in maintaining cleanliness at
houses, institutions, homesteads and open places of the city.

Later, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between RpCC and WVB
on engaging joint efforts to properly collect and dispose household wastes to
build a clean and environment-friendly Rangpur city.
